The 11 Lisbon Viewpoints
1. Nossa Senhora do Monte Viewpoint
Whoever says this is the best viewpoint in the city is not far from the truth.
The views from the highest point in Lisbon are breathtaking, with the castle and the historic center in the foreground, and the Tagus River on the horizon.
There’s a 13th-century chapel dedicated to Our Lady of the Mount at the location.
2. Portas do Sol Viewpoint
It’s one of the most classic viewpoints in Lisbon, and its privileged location between São Jorge Castle and Alfama also makes it one of the most sought-after.
It’s a genuine balcony over the historic part of the city, made up of houses, the sky, and the Tagus River.
Just a few steps away, there’s another unmissable viewpoint, although with similar views:
3. Santa Luzia Viewpoint
Miradouro de Santa Luzia is a popular viewpoint in Lisbon, Portugal. It is located in the historic Alfama district, which is known for its winding streets, colorful buildings, and historic landmarks.
From the Miradouro de Santa Luzia, visitors can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the Tagus River and the city of Lisbon. The viewpoint features a terrace surrounded by colorful tiles and ornate wrought-iron railings, providing a picturesque setting for visitors to take in the views.
In addition to the views, the Miradouro de Santa Luzia is also home to the Igreja de Santa Luzia, a beautiful church with a Baroque façade and a traditional Portuguese interior.
4. São Pedro de Alcântara Viewpoint
Located in the garden of the same name, next to the Glória Funicular and at the gates of Bairro Alto, this viewpoint offers one of the most beautiful and complete panoramas of the city, facing São Jorge Castle, but also with downtown and the Tagus River appearing in the picture.
The terrace, in a more secluded spot, invites you to enjoy the views while having a drink.
5. Graça Viewpoint
The official name is Miradouro Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen (the poet even has a bust on the site), but everyone knows it as Miradouro da Graça.
The church, the terrace, the leafy trees, and of course, the spectacular views of the city offer the ideal setting for those who want to admire the city.
6. Viewpoint of Jardim do Recolhimento
Just a stone’s throw from the Castle of São Jorge, the Miradouro do Jardim do Recolhimento is one of Lisbon’s best-kept secrets.
In addition to the breathtaking views, the perspective is also surprising because of its unusual view of Alfama at your feet, framed by the Tejo, the Monastery of São Vicente, and the Church of Santa Engrácia.
On-site, there is a diamond-shaped installation that helps take incredible photos, as well as a playground and a reading booth filled with books.
7. Castelo de São Jorge Viewpoint
In addition to being a historical symbol of Lisbon, the São Jorge Castle is also one of the best viewpoints, as it is located at one of the highest points of the city.
From here, you can see much of the capital, with a highlight on the historic area, but it also allows you to reach more distant places, such as the Arrábida Mountain Range, which is over 40 kilometers away from Lisbon.

8. Panoramic Viewpoint of Monsanto
The green lung of Lisbon houses (and hides) one of the most surprising viewpoints in the capital, the Panoramic Viewpoint of Monsanto.
It is located in a mysterious building that has served as a restaurant, bingo hall, disco, warehouse, and abandoned place, before becoming officially a viewpoint open to all.
The latest attraction of this place is a mural by Vhils that pays tribute to Brazilian activist Marielle Franco, who was assassinated in Rio de Janeiro in March 2018.

9. Miradouro do Arco da Rua Augusta
Open to the public since 2013, the Miradouro do Arco da Rua Augusta is well worth the price of admission.
The ascent is made by an elevator and two flights of stairs, and once at the top, you’ll be able to see the Praça do Comércio and the Tagus River on one side, Rua Augusta on the other, and further away the castle, the 25th of April Bridge and the south bank of the river.
10. Amoreiras 360° Panoramic Views
Tower 1 of the Amoreiras Shopping Center hosts this spectacular panoramic viewpoint, situated at 174 meters high.
With 360° views, it allows you to see all of Lisbon (and beyond) from the city center: the historic area, the new buildings, the castle, the hills, the Tagus river, and much more, everything seems to fit into this high point of the capital.
When you go there, don’t forget to bring your phone or camera because any image taken from here is guaranteed success on social media.
